XRay Ultimate texture pack will simplify the search for resources in Minecraft. It makes all textures transparent except valuable ores and spawners. Thus, you will always know in which direction…
XRay for Minecraft 1.18.1: what it shows and which file to take
Minecraft 1.18.1 (December 2021) is the first patch of the new world height. This is the version where XRay earns its keep. The world now goes down to Y −64, ore distribution changed completely, and the caves are big enough to get lost in. Diamonds peak around Y −58, iron has two peaks, one near Y 16 and one in mountains above Y 128, copper sits in dripstone caves, and emeralds concentrate in the mountain peaks. XRay Ultimate version 4.2.1 for 1.18 handles the whole range: stone, deepslate, tuff, dripstone and the cave filler go transparent, ore keeps its texture.
With the pack on, a 1.18 world looks like a cross-section: the lush caves hang as green pockets, aquifers as blue sheets, and the diamond layer as a sparse blue band just above bedrock. BeastX Xray also has a 1.18.1 build, with the frame outline that makes deep caves easier to walk.
Options for 1.18.1

Installing XRay on 1.18.1
- Optifine is optional on 1.18.1, but it makes the transparent blocks render without dark faces. Sodium users can skip it.
- Download the zip and leave it zipped.
- Open Options → Resource Packs → Open Pack Folder and drop the zip there.
- Move the pack to the right column, click Done and wait for the reload. The ground turns transparent at once, no new world needed.
Questions people ask about XRay 1.18.1
Is it a cheat?
On your own world it is a tool, on someone else’s server it is a cheat. Nearly every public server on 1.18.1 runs an anti-xray plugin that either hides ore until you dig next to it or logs the mining pattern and bans later. Use it for exploring your maps, for finding a lost base or a stronghold, and turn it off before joining a server.
Does it work with Sodium or Iris?
Yes. The pack is plain textures, it does not need Optifine on 1.18.1. Some faces may look darker with Sodium because of smooth lighting; turning smooth lighting to minimum fixes it.
Where are the diamonds on 1.18.1?
Dig to about Y −58 and look along the bottom with the pack on. Diamonds generate most often there, and the pack makes them visible through deepslate. Caves below Y 0 reduce the count, so a solid stretch of deepslate is the better place to look.
Can the pack ruin a save?
No. A resource pack changes only what is drawn, not the world file. Remove it from the right column and the world looks normal again.
