XRay for Minecraft 1.19.4: what it shows and which file to take

Minecraft 1.19.4 (March 2023) is the last Wild Update patch. On top of the 1.18 ore layout, the Wild Update added the deep dark and ancient cities, and those are exactly the places people look for with XRay: a city shows up as a huge grey hall full of sculk at the bottom of the world, and you can walk around the warden instead of through it. XRay Ultimate version 5.0.0 for 1.19–1.20 covers 1.19.4 and keeps sculk blocks, chests and ore visible while the stone around them disappears.

The ore pattern is the 1.18 one: diamonds around Y −58, redstone deep, iron near Y 16 and high in the mountains, copper in dripstone caves. Mangrove swamps and the mud blocks are drawn normally, so the surface still looks like Minecraft.

Options for 1.19.4

• XRay Ultimate — the texture pack, version 5.0.0 for 1.19–1.20. Transparent stone, visible ore, no mod loader needed.
• XRay Mod for Forge — a hotkey mod: press X, the world goes transparent, press again and it is back. Lets you choose which ores to highlight.
• XRay Mod for Fabric — the same idea for Fabric and Quilt, with the X key and a configurable ore list.

Installing XRay on 1.19.4

1. Optifine is optional on 1.19.4, but it makes the transparent blocks render without dark faces. Sodium users can skip it.
2. Download the zip and leave it zipped.
3. Open Options → Resource Packs → Open Pack Folder and drop the zip there.
4. Move the pack to the right column, click Done and wait for the reload. The ground turns transparent at once, no new world needed.

Questions people ask about XRay 1.19.4

Is it a cheat?

On your own world it is a tool, on someone else’s server it is a cheat. Nearly every public server on 1.19.4 runs an anti-xray plugin that either hides ore until you dig next to it or logs the mining pattern and bans later. Use it for exploring your maps, for finding a lost base or a stronghold, and turn it off before joining a server.

Does it work with Sodium or Iris?

Yes. The pack is plain textures, it does not need Optifine on 1.19.4. Some faces may look darker with Sodium because of smooth lighting; turning smooth lighting to minimum fixes it.

Where are the diamonds on 1.19.4?

Dig to about Y −58 and look along the bottom with the pack on. Diamonds generate most often there, and the pack makes them visible through deepslate. Caves below Y 0 reduce the count, so a solid stretch of deepslate is the better place to look.

Can the pack ruin a save?

No. A resource pack changes only what is drawn, not the world file. Remove it from the right column and the world looks normal again.
