This week’s snapshot focuses on polishing the Copper Golem experience with some quality-of-life improvements that make these helpful robots even more useful around your base.
Copper Golems Learn to Open Doors
The biggest change is that Copper Golems can now open doors! This makes them much more practical for indoor automation tasks. No more watching your golem get stuck because there’s a door in the way of their sorting route.
They’ve also gotten a slight hitbox adjustment – now 0.49 blocks wide instead of the previous size. This seemingly tiny change actually matters because it lets them navigate through tighter spaces and pathfind more efficiently around your builds.
Better Lighting and Flying
The snapshot includes lighting improvements that make entities look more consistent with the rest of the game. Basically, things like armor, elytra, and various mob parts will have more realistic shadows and lighting.
There’s also a nice quality-of-life fix for Creative mode players: switching from Spectator to Creative mode won’t randomly stop your flying anymore, unless you’re close to the ground. No more suddenly dropping out of the sky when switching modes mid-flight.
Technical Stuff
The game now requires OpenGL 3.3 instead of 3.2, but this shouldn’t affect anyone since the minimum requirements have been OpenGL 4.0 for years anyway. There are also various bug fixes for shelves and other small improvements.
