If you are tired that the tools take up too much space in your inventory, then simply transfer them to the belt. This is possible with the mod Tool Belt. It adds a new piece of clothing that can hold up to 9 tools or any other non-stacking items.
Initially, the belt has two slots for items, but you can additionally craft a bag and connect them on the anvil. Items are switched using a convenient circular menu, which is called by default by pressing the R button. Another nice feature of this mod is compatibility with Baubles.
