NeoForge is a new project born from the separation of almost the entire development team from Forge. It is a fork initiated due to long-standing issues and disagreements within the Forge community. The new team, led by people like cpw and Curle, aims to address toxicity and create a healthier modding environment. Immediately after release, on versions 1.20.1 and 1.20.2, NeoForge was compatible with Forge, but now more and more mods don’t have full compatibility. The team is in the process of developing governance documents and plans to create an Open Collective for financial support. NeoForge is a new start for Minecraft modding with a focus on collaboration and inclusivity. Many popular mods for Forge will now only be updated for NeoForge.
How to install NeoForge
- Download and run the file for your version of Minecraft.
- Select Install Client and click OK.
- Start the Launcher and select the version with NeoForge.
