OneBlock Map

There are several Minecraft maps called OneBlock, and the downloads below belong to the one that started it on CurseForge: Oneblock by Crimson Creations, first released in November 2018 for Minecraft 1.13.2. You spawn on a single grass block hanging over the void. Break it and it comes back as something else, and that one block is your only source of materials until you build outward from it.

Which OneBlock map this is

The CurseForge project is now run by Crepi, with MCommandd credited as lead pack developer, and it still lists Crimson Creations as the original publisher. We matched three of our files to its releases by name: the 1.16 archive is “Definitive version 1.1a” from July 2020, the 1.18–1.19 archive is release 1.9.0 from May 2022, and the 1.21 archive is “Oneblock Original 3.0.2” from July 2024. The project is listed for single and multiplayer.

It is not the OneBlock made by IJAMinecraft, which many YouTube series use. That one is a separate Java map, published on its author’s own site, with its own named phases such as the Plains, Icy Tundra, Idyll and Desolate Land. If a video shows those names, it is that map, and its progress order will not match this one.

How the block works

Mine the block and a new one appears in the same spot, so the supply never runs out. What it turns into depends on the version. The 2020 builds lean on custom recipes that turn dirt into other materials, while later releases are organised into themed phases that change as you keep breaking. The number of phases has grown between releases, so a guide written for one version may not fit another. Night still brings hostile mobs onto your platform, and with no ground under you a single knockback hit can end the run.

A safe opening looks like this:

1. Stand to the side, not on top, while you mine, so you do not drop when the block breaks.
2. Keep the first dirt and wood blocks and place them around the centre to make a platform.
3. Plant the first sapling away from the block and protect it; it is your renewable wood.
4. Get a water source down early, and fence the edges before night.

The map also has its own advancement tab, opening with a getting-started goal, and it works as a rough checklist of what to aim for next.

Custom recipes from the early builds

The 2020 versions add crafting recipes for things a void world cannot give you otherwise. These sheets come from the 1.15 and 1.16 era; newer releases change content, so check the in-game recipe book if one does not work.

• Two dirt and two cobblestone in a square give gravel, and gravel smelts into iron nuggets.
• Dirt and sand in a square make clay; clay over a bucket gives a water bucket.
• Eight cobblestone around coal make a magma block, which over a bucket turns into lava.
• Swords upgrade in steps: an ingot or diamond placed above the previous sword.
• Chainmail armour is made from iron ingots and iron bars.

Installing and playing with friends

Unzip the archive and move the world folder into .minecraft/saves. The folder that contains level.dat must sit directly in saves; if you see an extra folder level, move it up one step. Pick the file for your game version, then start the world from the singleplayer list.

For co-op, open the world to LAN or upload the same folder to a server as its world. These are Java Edition worlds: Bedrock on phones, consoles or Windows cannot open them, so searches for a Bedrock download of this map lead elsewhere.
